Cleaning Your Baton

Over the years, your twirling baton can start getting a bit dirty or dingy. Usage, sweat, food, or even dust can make your baton not as shiny as when you first bought it. While this is normal, following some cleaning guidelines can make your baton last longer and keep it in mint condition. With this in mind, our Star Line Baton team has compiled a step-by-step guide on how to easily clean your baton at home. Grab a pen and some paper, and let’s get started:

STEP #1: In normal condition, if the baton is not very dirty, all you’ll need is a damp cloth. If it’s too filthy, then add some hand or dish soap and rub the cloth to make it bubbling.

STEP #2: Don’t attempt to remove the ends of the button unless your baton has removable rubber ends. Otherwise, you can damage your baton! If the ends are grubby, just rub them with some wet wipes or keep a Magic Eraser handy in your practice bag. If this is not strong enough, grab an old toothbrush and wet it with some soap, and rub it until you remove all the dirt.

STEP #3: Start to gently rub the metal part of the baton, known as the shaft, up and down with the cloth until the dirt is completely removed from your baton.

STEP #4: If the stain persists, run warm water on the shaft of the baton. After that, rub it again with a damp cloth.

STEP #5: Drying the shaft of the baton completely and with a dry cloth is imperative, especially if it’s made of metal. Otherwise, it can eventually get rusty.

STEP #6: Don’t forget to clean your cloth so it’s ready next time you need to clean your baton.

Some monthly maintenance will take no time, and it will be well-worth it in order to keep your twirling baton looking like new. To make this process smoother, we recommend cleaning your baton at the end of each practice or performance to not accumulate more than a month worth of grime. Don’t wait to your next public performance to clean your twirling baton; keep it always ready with these quick and easy tips!
