How to Rock Your Baton Performance

It is the end of the school year, which means it is the end of the competing year for many baton twirlers, too. You have worked hard all year long, the costumes have been ordered, the rhinestones applied, and your moves are perfection. So, now it is time for you to show off your skills on the stage! Here are some tips for your to rock your baton twirling performance on the stage.

  • Believe in Yourself: You have worked hard at this routine. You have done it over and over again, both in a physical sense and in your head. You even dream about your routine. That being said, since you know this routine so well, let your personality shine. Yes, it is one thing to do a routine perfect, but if there is no heart behind the routine, then who cares if it is perfect. The judges and audience want to feel that connection and that connection is only made by relaxing, making eye contact with the judges and audience, and to let your love of what you are doing on that stage reflect through every movement.
  • Believe the Judges are Your Fans: Believe it or not, the judges want you to do an awesome job. All they want is to do your best and trust us; they know when a performer is not giving it their all. Remember to not let nervousness get in the way of showing the judges what you are made of!
  • Let it Go: Once you get on that stage, it is time to just let it go. Like we said, you KNOW this routine, so do it! Do not let yourself get hung up on the technical aspects. Listen to the music and move with it, become one with the music. Make that connection with the judges and the audiences and remember to SMILE! This is when you go for it. This is the moment when all those hours practicing make it all worth it.

How to do an Amazing Bun

No matter if you are at baton twirling practice or competing on the stage, having a proper and secure bun can make all the difference. When it comes to baton practice, it is important to keep all your hair out of your face so that you can keep your eyes 100% focused on the baton. And when it comes to competing, the judges can actually take points off if your hair isn’t properly secured as your hair is an actual part of your complete look.
